Room by Emma Donoghue
This summer i read the book Room by Emma Donoghue. This book was about a woman who was abducted by a man named Nick, and held "prisoner" in a shed in his backyard.  A couple years later she had a kid named Jack.  Because Jack was born in Room he had never experienced the outside world,  he thought it was all fake, or as he like to say "thats in T.V".  MA knew that this was not good for Jack's childhood so after 7 years of only living in Room she decided to try and escape although it was very risky and dangerous.  Believe it or not, thats the easy part.  The hard part is adjusting to the outside world and to the fact that there are other people than just Ma and Jack.  Thats where the real challenge lays.

This is a video that shows you the feeling and perspective of the book.  This will help you understand what this book is about and the point of view it is written from. It also shows you the struggles and problems that are in the book and gives you a preview of what to expect if you decide to read this book.

The main theme in the book Room is change can be hard and scary.  This theme is not evident until Ma and Jack decide to try and escape from Old Nick.  The farther into the book, the more apparent the theme is. The theme applies mostly to Jack.  This is because the change he is scared of is the outside, where he has never been before and Ma has. When Jack first goes into the outside he doesnt like it because it is different from room in many ways.  When it comes to all of his routines he refuses to do them in a different order than they did in Room.  Overall Jack just does not like to encounter change.

I really enjoyed reading this book.  I loved how it was very suspenseful and hard to put down.  I also liked how it was told from the point of view from a 5 year, so you had to infer what things meant.  I recommend this book to anybody who loves realistic fiction.
